There has always been rebellion in our culture thru-out the decades, or you could call it a Jalopy culture. Jalopy- denoting a poor, worn out, used, beatin-up basis for the medium or Art being used. Remember when Suede shoes were in, or take the Square toed boot – how ugly! There was the Afro hair style contrasted to the Dreadlocks of today and worse yet- the boys are training the hair to the center of their head to a Peak, while girls are shaving 1/2 their head and leaving the other half full-grown! The bell-bottom pants were quite the fade in the 60′s and today they’re so tight fitting- you gotta wonder how they get into them. If you consider Make-up applied – it’s not only applied in excessive amounts and colors, but think of the permanent coloring that has ruined the Natural body by Tatoos. All of this shares a common thread, that is they’re following a Trend. A trend is only temporary and leans away from traditional and classic values. Trend seekers are those that aspire to draw attention towards themselves, implying an insecurity. In contrast the Traditional look, style, or thinker rests securely in their choice that lives on and on; whereas the Trend is simply that and eventually dies out. You might say the Jalopy Pedal Car shares traditional values as well; being created from a simple basis, however formed and perfected into fine running machines with a sense of Pride in workmanship and creativity, Pedal Cars that have lived on thruout the last 80 years, leaving lasting memories.
Jalopy is a term from the 30′s derived , from the practice whereby crop and plantation workers ran off to a local shanty club or “joog joint” known for serving up food, drink and music at rates that were inexpensive; more importantly at rates that the oppressed could willingly afford. These were the days of long laborious hours, when crop workers only made the elite more wealthy. About this same time Auto enthusiasts, nut-runners and gear-heads would find an ole beat up Jalopy as a basis to build a Hot Rod. This was again another sign of the times – as Americans could not afford something new, especially being the time of the “Dust Bowl” and the “Great Depression”. But Ingenuity and Resourcefulness would win out, when early mechanics would take a beat up Ford, a run down Chevy of the day, strip it down – and thru a lot of hard work, and attention to detail, could turn a bunch of sheet metal and an exhausted motor, into racing machines that circled the dry lake bed tracks for great week-end fun! Likewise with the Political landscape, we see and experience a political Jalopy scenario, where both parties are scrambling to make something out of nothing, or lets say when little resources are left, when surplus funds have been run-down that existed in the late 90′s, have conversely been compounded to a 15 trillion dollar deficit, Medicare has been ripped off to the tune of 716 Billion dollars, Americans have lost their life savings in Home Equity, while millions are without jobs, and those that can’t see clearly want to raise Taxes ? It’s fair to coin it a “Jalopy Culture” a broken down culture, a broken system when the only thing the Left has done, is shore up the Wall Street Banks – while in the face of it all, the regulations have yet to be fixed ! Truly, a Jalopy culture when so many want more of the same dysfunctional way. Today – you can help turn this scenario around by obtaining one of our charming Jalopy Pedal Cars, with oversize tires, large head-lights and chrome appointments
For those of you who belong to a singles dating service on-line, you may have noticed that many profiles will answer the question on Religion as ” Spiritual but not Religious”. Assuming that believing all the Word is Spiritual, then this begs the question – How can a person be Spiritual and not Religious, when the “Word” instructs us not to forsake the assembling together ? It’s kind of a Jalopy belief that doesn’t hold water, or has no basis, as it’s a departure from the Operation Manual ( Word ). A Jalopy reasoning – as the Jalopies from the 30′s were beatin-up, run down, poorly maintained basis for building a Hot Rod. But that’s what the Hot Rodding sprung forth from, because that’s all Americans could afford. However – when some of the most talented mechanics ( and you must wonder where they got their talent from ) followed the Manual, they produced some of the best looking Jalopies and Roadsters in the world. So it is with us, all human Jalopies, that cut parts and pieces of the Manual out and toss it out ! And isn’t it evident in every corner of our culture today. When the Jalopy is submitted to be cleaned from all the gunk, bad parts and pieces, it’s ready for Restoration process, by following the Manual, the Jalopy will be fit for the show-room, receiving the ultimate Award ! Surely, this little Jalopy Pedal Car will thrill your ‘Lil’ Tyke or Princess.

In the teens and early twenties, Ford Motor Company dominated the Automotive marketplace with its Model T. The market dominance quickly eroded, as General Motors caught up with Ford’s production, out-competing Ford in choices, power and convenience. The plummeting market share of Model T forced him to realize the Automotive market wanted a new Ford model. He dove into the effort with a strong focus on the mechanical aspects- for which the Model T production system was famous. Die Stamping of parts from sheet steel, was perfected by Ford, leading to increased development and success, evident in our Jalopy Pedal Car. It was in the 20′s and 30′s that the strengths and limitations of the first generation of mass production became apparent by the Model T; marking the birth of “flexible mass production”.
While we just enjoyed seeing the Grammy Awards, it might be said that if some Artist and admirers from the “Big Band” Era heard the “Hip-Hop” today, may call the “Rap” Music as a Jalopy Music. However it’s interesting to note that a departure from the traditional forms of Music, Art and Language has been going on for quite some time. In the twenties, the youth over the older generation, created a Flapper Sub-Culture or a “Jalopy Slang”, words and phrases coined by the liberated Women, many of which are still used today. Listen to the following Slang terms; All Wet = describes an erroneous idea, Baloney = nonsense, Bearcat = a hot blooded or fiery girl, Crush = an infatuation, Chassis = the female body, Dame = a female, Dead Soldier = an empty beer bottle, Flat Tire = a dull witted, insipid, disappointing date, Hooch = bootleg liquor, Java = coffee, Joint = a club, Owl = a person who’s out late, Real McCoy = the genuine, Says You = a reaction of disbelief, Whoopee = to have a good time. So it is , still today that “Jalopy Slang” can be found in the Jalopy Cars of the 30′s, 40′s and 50′s unlike the the Sedans and Touring Cars that came before, with more Vintage and Classic lines. Our beautifully crafted Jalopy Pedal Car symbolizes a car that was built from Junkers, a Beater, a car that could be obtained for a few dollars, molded, fixed and tweeked into a weekend Racer for miles of inexpensive fun and entertainment.
Micro-systems chief Scott McNealy recently scolded thousands of Gearheads at the Oracle World Conference, for hyper-engineering their computer systems. “The technology industry is migrating away from a model, where companies have created a Unique Data Center w/components from up to 100 suppliers. In the future, companies will buy pre-assembled standard computer systems, and IT departments will shrink. IT companies are building their own Jalopies.” Cost is obviously a driving factor.
