1926 Packard Kids Pedal Car

After World War I, pedal car production took a significant turn for the better in terms of both quality and the variety of pedal cars- not to mention trucks and airplanes produced. As the economy of the 1920′s began to roar, more and more people found the means to buy luxury goods for themselves and their children. Pedal car manufacturers scrambled to offer the buying public more choices, with a continued emphasis on creating detailed replicas of the real cars of the day.                                                                      There were pedal cars that sported names that have faded into the past: Reo, Oakland, Jordan, and the Marmon. There were exquisitely crafted pedal car versions of the finest cars of the day, such as the 1926 Packard, a touring sedan. Some of the luxury pedal cars offered fantastic amounts of detail, quality materials, and construction that far surpasses today’s standards for Kids Pedal Cars.                                                                                                                                               Pedal cars were featured as ” Juvenile Autos”, so often the case these little gems, followed the growth and styling of the auto industry itself. While cars were becoming more plentiful and more affordable, they became more practical. They had fine detailing that included simulated spark and gas controls on the steering wheel, gearshifts, cowl lights, and more. They were even equipped with toolboxes, spare tires mounted on the front fender, and luggage racks.                                                                                                                                 As pedal cars became a more established segment of the toy industry, larger manufacturers emerged in Toledo, Ohio; and would become the city known for being the “Detroit” of the pedal car world. Fortunately today- Pedal cars are not only for the wealthy, as they are affordable for the “Working Class”, because of the methods and technology used today.
